About me

My name is Jorin Vermeulen, I am a Kubestronaut located in Groningen, the Netherlands.
I started learning about computers at the age of 12, when I joined the Dutch youth center “Stichting-SCN”. This started out by learning how to work with Ubuntu (I believe it was version 6 at the time — you could still get an installation CD in the mail for free) and learning to program in PHP.
One of the things that really stuck with me from this youth center is my love for 8-bit music and remixes thereof — largely thanks to the radio station we’d always listen to, and which is still active today: SlayRadio. If you enjoy this genre of music, definitely give it a try!
Over the years I have managed several (web)servers, worked with different Linux distributions and developed various kinds of websites and web applications, some of which can be found in my Portfolio. One of the servers I’ve had since the start runs Unraid OS, which helped me explore the world of Docker containers. Although I’ve now migrated most of my containers to my homelab Kubernetes cluster on a bunch of Raspberry Pi 5’s and VMs, this server still makes up a core part of my homelab.
Whereas my interest in IT originally started as a programmer / web developer, my interest as a professional has shifted towards DevOps & Cloud Engineering, with the goal of specializing as a Kubernetes Engineer. As part of this goal I’ve earned the CKS, CKA, CKAD, KCSA and KCNA certifications, which grant me the proud title of Kubestronaut.
